Hammond & Champness Lift Company

Hammond & Champness is a company which made lifts from 1905.
They took over Aldous Campbell Hypower in 1967. In 1971 they merged with Dover (a USA lift company), but were still run as a seperate company. Hammond & Champness were taken over by Thyssen in 1997. Later on Dover were also taken over by Thyssen.




1900s

Hammond and Champness Ltd started in may 1905 by cousins Ernest Hammond and Harold Champness, later Leonard Hammond joined, and the company was renamed "Hammond Bros and Champness Ltd". They originally made hydraulic water lifts.





1930s

In 1932 "Hammond Bros and Champness Ltd" went bankrupt and was taken over by E Pollard & Co Ltd, but was still run as a seperate company. they renamed it Hammond & Champness.

After 1971 Hammond & Champness made the same sort of lifts as Dover. (It is rare to find one of these lifts)

The Warden (for residential)








In the 1990s Dover went on to making Impulse lifts (Click here for a video of a Dover Impulse).

Hammond & Champness decided not to do the same. Instead they made these types of lift. (The Balmoral and The Windsor)
